The short version
MegaCleaner runs entirely on your Mac. Your files never leave your machine. The app sends one anonymous ping per day so we can count active installs — that's the only data the app ever transmits.
What the app does
MegaCleaner scans directories on your Mac to identify files that can be safely cleaned up. All scanning and cleaning happens locally. No file names, paths, sizes, or any other information about your files is sent anywhere.
Anonymous usage statistics
MegaCleaner is free, so once per day the app sends a small heartbeat ping to megacleaner.app/api/heartbeat. This is the only signal we have to know how many people actively use the app. The ping contains:
- A random installation ID generated on first launch (not tied to your name, email, or any other identifier)
- App version and build number
- macOS version
- System locale (e.g.
en_US)
We do not collect: your name, email, file names, file paths, scan results, feature usage, click data, or any other information.
Because MegaCleaner is a small free app and this single ping is the only way to gauge whether anyone is using it, this heartbeat cannot be disabled. If you'd rather not send it, please don't install MegaCleaner.
Updates
MegaCleaner checks for app updates via Sparkle, the standard macOS update framework. The update check fetches a static appcast file from GitHub; nothing about your machine is transmitted as part of that check.
Website
This website uses Meta Pixel and the X (Twitter) Universal Website Tag to measure download conversions from advertising. We use the data in aggregate to understand which channels drive installs; we don't sell or share it with third parties beyond Meta and X themselves.
The only data stored locally is your theme preference (dark/light) in your browser's localStorage.
